The Incredible Finish
It was 13:10:35 when the first pigeon, the fantastic NL.24-8533300, shot down from the sky like a lightning bolt. With an astounding speed of 1,485 meters per minute, this young pigeon raced towards the loft. The wind from the east may have been an extra challenge, but this top pigeon showed what it means to fly with pure power and determination.
But the story gets even better! The NL.24-8533300 was listed as the 13th nominated pigeon on André's entry list. Who would have thought that this pigeon, against all odds, would stand on the highest podium? And what a podium it was! Not just a few competitors, but real heavyweights like Team GPS and Irving van Oss had to acknowledge their superior in this super pigeon.
The Moment of Realization
It's a scene straight out of a movie: Frans Smulders, André's clubmate and good friend, was sitting outside, relaxed, talking with André about pigeon racing. Frans, a man known for his success in short-distance races, had given André two of his best breeding pairs, a gesture of friendship and trust.
At that moment, the pigeons from the second race of the weekend, from Laon, also arrived. A pigeon dove towards the loft with unprecedented speed. André rushed to the Unikon system, and what he saw there made him freeze. Goosebumps, shivers... the NL.24-8533300, which had flown Sens at 1,485 m/min! The disbelief was immense.
His first thought? "This can't be true!" He quickly called his companion Jan Schreuder, who, as always, remained calm. But when they checked the live results on Compuclub, it turned out that it was indeed possible: speeds above 1,475 m/min were also recorded at other distances.
The Great Triumph
The waiting began, but no other pigeon in the region managed to match the speed of André's champion. Finally, it was confirmed: 1st in the section against 2,342 pigeons and 1st in Sector 1B against 4,436 pigeons! A performance of unparalleled class.
A Breeding of Success
This triumph gave André renewed courage after a pigeon racing year full of ups and downs. It is proof that dedication and collaboration, such as that between André and Frans, can lead to great success. The winning pigeon, bred by Frans Smulders, has more than proven its potential. What an amazing experience for both men, and what a fantastic moment for the pigeon racing sport!
This is why we love this sport: the excitement, the emotion, and the joy of victory. André Wiel and his super pigeon have made history, and we can proudly tell this story.
Here's to more legendary races!
Until the next blog,
