On a beautiful summer day, as the sun rose at 7:30 AM and the sky was filled with a moderate variable wind, 9391 pigeons were released in Chalons en Champagne, France. This race would cover a distance of 443 kilometers to the picturesque Darp, located in the municipality of Westerveld, Drenthe province. For many, it was a challenging day, but for one team, it was a day of triumph: Team B & J Willems, consisting of Bert and Jolanda Willems.

A Bit of History
Bert Willems was captivated by pigeon racing at a young age. His passion knew no bounds, and although marriage and a move in 1990 temporarily ended this hobby, he quickly found his way back. In 1991, after moving to a house next to his parental home, he resumed his beloved sport.

Jolanda, who met Bert in 1989, quickly found her own passion in pigeon racing. When they bought a pigeon loft nearby in 2011 and placed it at their current address, her enthusiasm fully awakened. The duo grew into a team that could share and experience their love for pigeon racing together.

The Birth of Team B & J Willems
In 2019, Jolanda started with the Ladies League, an initiative that further refined her knowledge and skills in pigeon racing. After two years, they decided to join forces as Team B & J Willems, a choice that has since led to impressive achievements.

The Winner from Chalons en Champagne
The victory in the race from Chalons en Champagne was nothing short of spectacular. The first pigeon, a beautiful hen with the ring number NL.23-7081211, arrived at the lofts in Darp at 12:51:14. This pigeon covered the distance at an incredible speed of 1381 meters per minute, a performance that attests to her exceptional qualities and the careful training by Bert and Jolanda.

This winning pigeon is the result of a strategic pairing between pigeons from the Golden Heremans Collection and New Generation Pigeons. This combination has clearly paid off, as not only did they win first place, but ten of the sixteen entered pigeons won prizes. The final result speaks volumes: 1 - 16 - 258 - 767 - 821 - 1053 - 1639 - 1709 - 1837 - 2531.

The Significance of This Victory
The victory of Team B & J Willems is not just an achievement; it is proof of their dedication, hard work, and the deep bond they have built with their pigeons. Winning first place against a field of 9391 pigeons is an accomplishment that every pigeon enthusiast dreams of. It is a recognition of their skill and knowledge, as well as their ability to make the right decisions at crucial moments.

A Bright Future
For Bert and Jolanda, this victory is just the beginning. With their combined passion and expertise, they have shown that they are a force to be reckoned with in the pigeon racing world. The pigeon racing community eagerly awaits their future achievements.
