On October 17, the national boards of the KBDB and NPO met to clarify the organization of the international pigeon races in 2025. Following the discontinuation of ZLU’s activities as an international partner for the Netherlands, there was some uncertainty, but now there’s great news: A successor has been secured, and the NPO will become the international partner for organizing these prestigious races!
5 International races in 2025
The meeting fostered a constructive dialogue between the representatives of both federations, taking into account the wishes and proposals of both parties. Although some logistical and administrative details still need to be worked out, many points of agreement have already been reached. This means that Dutch marathon pigeons will participate in five major international races in 2025:
Importantly, the basketing day for all international flights will remain the same as in 2024, on Monday. It has also been agreed that Dutch pigeons will not be mixed with pigeons from other countries during transport or release. The NPO will be responsible for the transport, care, and release of Dutch pigeons.
1. Pau - June 20, 2025
2. Agen - June 27, 2025
3. Barcelona - July 4, 2025
4. St. Vincent (Dax) - July 11, 2025
5. Perpignan - August 1, 2025
Furthermore, pigeons will only be released after unanimous agreement between all participating countries. No country can release the pigeons without the consensus of all, ensuring a fairer race outcome.
International results will be calculated by a Belgian organizer as usual, and the participation costs will be determined shortly.
For marathon fanciers, this is excellent news: The international races are secured and will take place in full glory in 2025. There is even consideration for improvements, such as an evaluation after the season and potential adjustments to neutralization times to prevent unfair outcomes. This offers great prospects for Dutch marathon pigeon fanciers, who can continue to participate in the prestigious international races in 2025!
The Sport is alive and kicking!
