A Perfect Day for Pairing

The sun is shining high in the sky, the air is fresh and crisp. It’s one of those days where everything just feels right. Perfect weather to let my pigeons pair up. Today marks an important moment: the pairing. A magical day in the loft.

Natural Pairing – No Interference

No strict planning, no forced pairings, no pre-selected partners. I believe in natural pairing. My pigeons choose their own partners, just as nature intended. No artificial lighting, no extra seeds to boost their drive—just pure nature.

A Smooth Winter Season

This year, I have only six pairs, a nice compact number that allows me to manage them optimally. What stands out is how easy it has been to get my pigeons through the winter this year. They have done exceptionally well without any hassle or extra care. The only additional step I took was the mandatory paramyxovirus vaccination required in the Netherlands. Other than that, I kept everything as natural as possible, and it has paid off.

The Magic of Courtship

The moment I open the loft doors and the pigeons start to find each other is always special. At first, they cautiously observe one another, with the cocks showing off their strength. Then the courtship begins. One cock puffs up his chest and circles his chosen mate, while another coos softly to win over a hen. The hens watch calmly and make their own choices.

A Joy to Watch

I could watch this for hours. This is why I love pigeon racing so much. The birds reveal their most natural behavior, and it’s beautiful to see. No forced pairings, no stress, just pure harmony. Within a few hours, most pairs have found each other, snuggling close in their nest boxes, cooing gently. A wonderful sight.

The Power of a Natural Approach

By keeping things as natural as possible, I notice that my pigeons are stronger and healthier. Good nutrition, fresh air, and plenty of rest are essential. Avoiding stress is crucial, and with a natural approach, that’s easy to achieve. In my experience, well-cared-for pigeons find their own way and perform at their best without artificial stimulation.

The Start of a Promising Season

Pairing season is one of my favorite times of the year. Not only because it marks the start of a new season, but also because it reminds me of the beauty and purity of pigeon sport. Now, it’s just a matter of waiting for the first eggs to appear, but one thing is certain: the foundation is set for a fantastic season!
