Sometimes, a story starts with sadness… but ends with hope and pride.

Today, I want to share a personal moment with you. It’s about saying goodbye to a true champion, and witnessing the birth of a new generation that carries his spirit forward.

Last week, I received a message from my good friend, Piet Lindelauf. It started with the words: "Hello Jan, unfortunately, some sad news..." And I immediately felt it – this was going to be tough.

Liam is no longer with us.

A name that stood for strength, breeding quality, and results.

For years, Liam was a cornerstone of the breeding lofts. But since March 2024, he had stopped fertilizing, and his condition declined. With dignity and care, he was humanely euthanized. No suffering, only gratitude for what he gave (late) Gerard & Piet Lindelauf.

But then… came the good news.

The 2025 breeding season? Absolutely outstanding. In just three rounds, no less than 104 young pigeons have been born – and here comes the incredible part – 55 of them are grandchildren of Liam.

This isn’t luck. This is legacy.

His best son, “Spike”, has stepped into the spotlight – and what a job he's doing! So far this year, he’s already fathered 10 strong youngsters, each carrying the fire and form of Liam’s bloodline. When Piet sent me a picture of Spike, I knew instantly: this bird is the future. He’s got the look, the presence, the power.

And as if that wasn’t enough, the racing team is ready to go. Next week, the season begins, and Piet reports that their condition is top-notch. The engine is warm, the wings are eager, and the results? They’re just waiting to happen.

In pigeon racing, it’s all about passion, planning, and persistence. Liam wasn’t just a breeder – he was a foundation, a name that will echo through future generations. And when I look at Spike and all those grandchildren… I know: Liam lives on.

So here’s to a champion’s legacy. To new beginnings. And to a bright future for the sport we love.

Yours in sport,
