What a race. What a colony. What a champion!
Saturday, April 5th, 2025 – a date that won’t be forgotten in Dutch Section 1 anytime soon. From the Belgian city of Quievrain, no less than 8,833 pigeons were released at 9:45 AM under perfect racing conditions: clear skies, a light northeast wind (NO2), and 12 degrees Celsius. Everything pointed toward a beautiful race… and what we witnessed was a masterclass.
One man stood head and shoulders above the rest: Cees Schroevers from Arnemuiden, who completely dominated this race in a way only true champions can. This wasn’t just a good result – this was a racing pigeon explosion of elite quality.
1st place and a flood of top positions
Cees started where others hope to finish – by taking 1st prize against 8,833 pigeons. His top bird, NL24-2400569, covered the 122.061 km at an impressive speed of 1285.299 m/min and clocked at 11:19:58 AM. That’s what we call a real bang!
But what made this performance legendary? He kept clocking pigeon after pigeon like a machine!
