Some race results deserve a second look. And then there are performances that make you look three times. We dive in Bordeaux at Scheele Brothers…
On 5 June 2026, the famous Gebr. Scheele loft from Terneuzen delivered another impressive performance, winning 1st prize against 4,228 pigeons in the official SWZW A23 competition from Bordeaux La Sauve.
The winning pigeon, NL25-2500973, conquered a racing distance of 790.102 kilometres to take the highest honour. But the victory itself was only part of the story. With eight prizes from just fourteen pigeons entered, the Scheele team demonstrated the depth of a loft that has been competing at the highest levels of Dutch pigeon racing for decades.
And when you look at the complete result, things become even more interesting.
One Winner, Eight Prizes and a Remarkable Team Performance
The pigeons were liberated from Bordeaux La Sauve on Friday, 5 June, at 14:00. The official result records the winning Scheele pigeon at 01:12:46, with a published classification velocity of 2,080.844 metres per minute.
That performance put Gebr. Scheele at the very top of the 4,228 pigeon competition.
But one exceptional bird does not tell the whole story.
The second pigeon from Terneuzen secured 58th position, followed by another at 75th. Their fourth and fifth pigeons claimed 118th and 150th, meaning five of their fourteen entries finished among the first 150 classified pigeons.
The remaining prize winners followed in 294th, 329th and 736th positions.
Altogether, eight prizes from fourteen entries produced a prize percentage of 57.1 percent.
For experienced long distance enthusiasts, these figures speak for themselves. Winning a race demands an outstanding individual pigeon. Combining that victory with such a strong team result offers something more: evidence of quality throughout the racing team.
This was no ordinary Bordeaux result.

The Scheele Legacy Continues
The name Gebr. Scheele carries considerable weight in international pigeon racing circles, and with good reason.
The foundations of this remarkable racing family were established through the partnership of Jaap Scheele and his father Adriaan. Together, they built a reputation for winning provincial and NPO races, developing outstanding breeding pigeons and competing successfully for prestigious championships.
Their performances made Terneuzen a familiar name among serious racing pigeon enthusiasts.
Following Adriaan’s passing in 2020, Jaap continued the family tradition. In later years, Simon van Hoeve joined forces with him, while Jaap’s nephew Patrick Maas also became involved in the loft.
The combination evolved, but the determination to compete successfully remained.
And anyone familiar with the Scheele breeding history will recognise names such as Superboy, Sonny, Cher and Rico. These pigeons and their descendants helped establish a formidable reputation, with outstanding individual racing performances and influential breeding results.
However, the pedigree of the 2026 Bordeaux winner has not yet been established from the available race information. That is one detail we would particularly like to discover, because every great victory has a breeding story behind it.
Another Highlight in an Exceptional Racing Tradition
The Bordeaux victory becomes even more interesting when placed alongside the loft’s other recent successes.
Earlier in 2026, Gebr. Scheele attracted considerable attention with a remarkable pigeon named Victory.
This talented hen won 1st NPO Melun against an impressive 27,731 pigeons, following an earlier victory from Niergnies. These performances demonstrated that the loft remained highly competitive in major competitions.

Bordeaux presented a different challenge, with a race distance approaching 800 kilometres and a competition involving 4,228 pigeons.
Once again, the Scheele name appeared in first position.
Such results reinforce the reputation built over many years. Success in pigeon racing requires more than a celebrated bloodline or one exceptional champion. It demands the ability to prepare, manage and maintain a competitive team across different racing challenges.
Of course, every race has its own circumstances, and one result cannot reveal every detail of a loft’s methods. Nevertheless, eight prizes from fourteen entries, combined with the overall victory, provide convincing evidence of an excellent performance.
A Victory Worth Celebrating
There is something special about seeing a respected name continue to deliver results year after year.
For the Scheele team, Bordeaux La Sauve 2026 added another important victory to an already distinguished racing history.
For the wider pigeon racing community, it offers another example of what makes this sport so fascinating. Every competition brings together generations of experience, carefully developed breeding families, dedicated fanciers and the remarkable abilities of the racing pigeon itself.
The result from Bordeaux tells a powerful story without needing exaggeration.
First against 4,228 pigeons. Eight prizes from fourteen entries. Five pigeons among the first 150.
Jaap, Simon and Patrick, congratulations on a wonderful achievement!
The Scheele legacy is very much alive, and the pigeons are still doing the talking.
