This past weekend saw the annual auction of Willem de Bruijn, the pigeon champion whose name echoes through the international pigeon world. Held at the stunning Hotel Nobis in Asten, this iconic auction brought in a fortune yet again, with a staggering average of €20,694 per pigeon and a total yield of an incredible €1,655,520!

Total for 80 pigeons €1,655,520!
However, the allure of this auction extends beyond just the impressive figures. The true magic of this event lies in the physical presence of the pigeons, an experience made possible only through the indispensable efforts of Sportblad “De Duif” and the highly respected sales leader Dirk Leekens. Under his guidance, the charm of the physical auction has remained intact, turning this annual event into an ode to the genuine skill and craftsmanship involved in judging a pigeon "in hand."

his year was particularly thrilling. No fewer than 18 of the 80 pigeons sold for over €30,000, with the highlight being NL24-8413305, a 'Daughter of Murphy’s Law,' fetching an astonishing €127,200 from a top Belgian loft. China remains the largest buyer, but many pigeons found new homes with buyers in the Netherlands, Belgium, and Germany – a testament to the global allure of De Bruijn’s bloodlines.

The auction was a blend of excitement, competition, and expertise. Every pigeon enthusiast knows: there is nothing like assessing a pigeon firsthand. That moment when a pigeon quivers lightly in your fingers, letting you feel its muscles and gauge its strength and structure, is crucial in making that perfect choice.

Some highlights of the auction included:

· Lot 80 - NL24-8413305 “Daughter of Murphy’s Law” sold for €127,200
· Lot 40 - NL24-8413240 “Son of Murphy’s Law” sold for €96,000

· Lot 72 - NL24-8413301 “Son of Uranus” sold for €86,400

With these prices and fantastic organization, Willem de Bruijn’s annual auction continues to be a top event in international pigeon racing. The physical auction, where passion and expertise unite, has retained all its charm. Dirk Leekens and Sportblad “De Duif” breathe life into the magic of this auction every year, ensuring that every euro bid feels like an investment in something extraordinary – the craftsmanship of Willem de Bruijn.
This auction was not only a financial triumph but also a cultural celebration of the sport. Because let’s be honest: there’s nothing quite like the experience of a live pigeon auction.
