π 1st Kring – 1st CC – 2nd against 13,694 pigeons
The Dutch pigeon sport is alive and thriving — and no team shows that better than Team Nijman from Heemskerk. On Saturday, April 19, during the race from Lennik (BE), they delivered another masterclass in consistency, quality, and teamwork.
Released under near-perfect spring weather — clear skies and a gentle east wind — the pigeons from Afdeling 6 “Noord-Holland” were set free at 09:00, with a total of 13,694 pigeons in the race.
Coffee, cookies & champions
Around 10:30 AM, the Team gathered at the loft. Dirk, Ed, Steef, and Gerrie (arriving just in time) enjoyed some coffee and homemade cake as they waited for the action to begin. Reports from the front lofts suggested birds were already arriving.
Then came the moment: their first pigeon appeared, looped twice above the loft, and dropped. It was the now-famous NL23-9241453, a top hen showing serious promise. “She’s becoming a little star,” the team shared — and they’re not wrong.
A sticky race — but the results speak volumes
Although the birds didn't trap as cleanly as usual — many hovered longer in the air than expected — the results were outstanding. The race turned out to be “sticky,” with a long duration and scattered returns across the province.
And yet, Team Nijman managed to stand out in every ranking:
ποΈ Top results in Kring 1 (3,243 pigeons):
1 – 7 – 11 – 12 – 17 – 33 – 55 – 66 – 80 – 83 – 88 – 104 – 127 – 135 – 153
π₯ Club Winner
π₯ 1st in CC (2,037 pigeons)
π₯ 2nd in Afdeling 6 (13,694 pigeons)
π Speed of the 1st bird: 1373.908 m/min
With 59 pigeons entered, Team Nijman won 39 prizes in Kring 1, giving them a prize percentage of 66% — a benchmark most lofts only dream of. Their birds not only dominated the front — with 1st, 7th and 11th in Kring 1 — but showed depth all the way to position 153. That’s performance through the entire team.
More than results: the joy of the sport
What makes Team Nijman so special isn’t just their results, but their approach. The team culture, the laughter around the loft, the shared anticipation, and the satisfaction when a bird hits the trap — that’s the soul of pigeon racing.
Team Nijman proves that top results and pure enjoyment go hand in hand. And that with teamwork, consistency, and passion, you can still stand out — week after week.
