The Hoeksche Waard is a place where absolute world champions reside, and unfortunately, the wrong people know it all too well. Last night, a gang attempted to disrupt the peace at the icon of our magnificent sport: the Batenburg vd Merwe family. However, they had not counted on the sharpness of the police and the indestructible spirit of our community. At the Kiltunnel, the trap snapped shut relentlessly when officers cornered a French vehicle filled with Eastern European suspects. Inside that car, they found not only crowbars and heavy bolt cutters but also a navigation system pointing directly to the lofts of Hugo and Anita. This was no coincidence anymore; it was a frontal attack on our passion.
Officers in the Shadows and Ironclad Surveillance
While the entire family slept peacefully, their property was transformed into an invisible fortress. The police took up hidden positions and watched as the perpetrators indeed attempted to strike. They circled like hungry wolves, but thanks to the visible cameras and the ironclad security at Batenburg vd Merwe Pigeons, they eventually fled back south. Only when the coast was clear was Hugo woken by officers with flashing lights on their roof. It is quite a shock to stand there in your pajamas at half past three in the morning, but the relief that the police were so on top of these criminals outweighs everything. Our sport is top-tier, and it deserves the very best protection.

Let’s be honest, this hit the family hard. When criminals drive all the way from France specifically to attack your life’s work, it makes your legs shake for a moment. Anita did not sleep a wink, and Hugo had to take a deep breath too. But we pigeon fanciers are made of steel. Our sport is far too beautiful and our champions are far too precious to let ourselves be intimidated by a bunch of cowards. The joy in the sport was briefly gone due to the shock, but that fighting spirit always rises to the top. We will not let anyone take away the pleasure we find in Batenburg vd Merwe Pigeons.

The police are keeping an extra eye on the area now, but we must remain sharp ourselves. Pigeon racing is world-class, and unfortunately, that occasionally attracts vermin. Do not be an easy victim. Watch out for suspicious characters in your street and contact the authorities immediately if something feels off. We stand shoulder to shoulder for the safety of our birds.
