Welcome back to PigeonBoss, the absolute number one place where we celebrate the true magic of pigeon racing. Last Saturday, on May 9, 2026, we witnessed a performance that goes straight into the history books. Faan Wetzels, the grandmaster from Eijsden, delivered an absolute masterpiece. When we talk about Faan Wetzels Pigeons, we are talking about pure elite sports, immeasurable passion, and an unprecedented intuition. This was no lucky fluke, this was the resounding proof of years of built up craftsmanship. Are you ready for a story that sends sparks flying? Fasten your seatbelts!
The Harsh Reality of Sourdun
Let us look at the rock hard facts. The weather gods had mapped out quite a tough scenario. With a brisk temperature of only 12 degrees Celsius and a weak northeast wind, the athletes of the sky were gifted absolutely nothing. A northeast wind simply means flying with the wind right on the beak towards South Limburg. It was a race for the real go getters, beasts with an immense character, explosive power, and an indestructible orientation ability. At the start in Sourdun, no less than 14304 pigeons were raring to go, brought in by 537 fanatic fanciers from the Limburg department.

And what did Faan Wetzels do? He rolled up the entire field with playful ease. Over a distance of over 301 kilometers, his first top class bird rushed home with a mind boggling speed of 1279 meters per minute. Exactly at 12 hours, 10 minutes, and 28 seconds, the gold medal dropped on the loft in Eijsden. What makes this victory extra ridiculously good is the overwhelming display of power. His second pigeon arrived over eight minutes later with a speed of 1234 meters per minute. That shows perfectly how incredibly hard the winner turned its back on the massive competition! Out of the 26 entered warriors, a staggering 19 flew magnificently into the prizes. That is not just participating, that is simply dominating the airspace.
A Richly Filled Palmares
Anyone who follows pigeon racing even a little bit knows that this ultimate boss is no rookie. His name is consistently cemented at the very top of the results. When we look at recent years, we see a brilliant succession of triumphs:
In 2023 he grabbed the unparalleled Provincial victory from Sens against no less than 10653 pigeons.
In 2025 he claimed absolute victory from Marche against 596 pigeons in the Southwest flying area.
That same magical year he hit the bullseye on Charleville against 784 pigeons.
And also on Lorris he mercilessly showed everyone his heels against 338 pigeons in the illustrious Samenspel Maasvallei.
The Golden Breeding Loft of Faan Wetzels Pigeons
Such extraterrestrial results do not just happen out of nowhere. You need astronomical quality, and that flows continuously through the veins of this colony. The Eijsden loft houses an insane collection of super genes. Think of the highly praised lines of the famous Geeloger from Koen Minderhoud via the late Harie Winkens. Add to that the successful input from grandmaster Joop Groenen from Ooij. But the engine is really cranked up by the exclusive blood of Jo and Florian Hendriks from Nijswiller, including a phenomenal sister of the Kleine Gerard and great descendants of the Super hen from Deng Lins. As if that is not enough, noble blood from icon Ad Schaerlaekens flows through the robust strain, partly via the Combination Van Heteren and the successful Combination Hoezen Steinhage.
Not only in Eijsden do these genes fly the roof off. They also achieve gigantic successes in other lofts. Take Thomas Koelewijn from Bunschoten Spakenburg for example. He acquired a round of young birds from Faans racers and unexpectedly became 1st Emperor General Youngsters in the incredibly strong Fondclub Gooi en Eemland in both 2024 and 2025.
This is the tangible proof that success in our fabulous sport can be created, provided you have the ultimate mix of top pigeons, a rock solid long term vision, and the burning passion to squeeze the very best out of your colony every single day. Faan possesses the unique and rare gift to feel his racers perfectly and to bring them to the starting line in absolute top form at exactly the right peak moment. He forges a blind trust with his winged friends, a crucial trait that you simply cannot learn from a theory book.
The pigeon sport is alive, it is buzzing like never before and the sport knows true, living heroes like Faan Wetzels. Such breathtaking performances inspire all of us to be even sharper, to select even better, and above all to enjoy every heroic homecoming even more. Let us keep promoting this legendary sport and celebrate together far into the future!
