A photograph shows a male judge with short grey hair and a standard black robe sitting at a raised wooden bench in a courtroom, speaking while addressing individuals off-camera. His hands are resting on the bench surface, and his expression is focused as he speaks. The judge is wearing glasses, and a nameplate on the bench reads "Mr. S. VERSCHOOT, acting presiding judge". He appears to be explaining that the judge has ruled that the word "Olympiad" or "Olympiad" can be used in combination with "Racing Pigeon" or "Colombophile," but that the word "Olympiad" or "Olympiad" in its standalone use cannot be used. His expression suggests he is summarizing the judgment. In the foreground, spectators are listening to the judge, with one person in the front row appearing engaged in conversation.

Today we must unfortunately swallow a bitter pill. Our beloved sport has taken a substantial hit at the administrative and legal level. It is a decision that, at first glance, brings pain to the heart of every true pigeon enthusiast. But as elite sports competitors, we look reality straight in the eye, instantly square our shoulders, and look ahead with unmatched bravado.

The Bitter Reality of the Verdict

The hard facts do not lie. On May 14, 2026 , FCI President Dr. David Barros Madeira issued an urgent and mandatory directive to all affiliated national federations. The reason is a heavy verdict from the President of the Dutch-speaking Enterprise Court of Brussels , pronounced by acting presiding judge Mr. S. Verschoot. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) brought claims against the FCI for infringing its intellectual property rights and trademarks. The court declared these claims well-founded.

Concretely, this means the FCI and its members must immediately cease the use of the Olympic rings and the word “Olympic”. This strict ban applies to all platforms, including websites, social media, publications, catalogues, promotional materials, and official event regulations.

An Unbreakable Vow To Your Racing Team

Pigeon racing is the most magnificent sport on earth, and nothing beats the rush of clocking a champion. I am in this game to win, just like you. That is exactly why my birds only get the absolute best. The products I share with you are the exact secret weapons I use to dominate the skies. No empty claims, just pure performance and vitality. Give your flock the fuel they deserve, elevate your entire loft, and let us celebrate those glorious weekend victories together. Claim your spot at the top!”

The financial consequences of non-compliance are severe. There is a penalty fine of EUR 1,000.00 per document, webpage, or individual publicity publication for each day the infringement continues , up to a maximum total of EUR 100,000.00. Furthermore, the FCI is ordered to publish the operative part of this judgment clearly on the homepage of its official website, www.pigeonsfci.net, for a period of three months. A penalty of EUR 500.00 per day applies if they fail to comply, up to a maximum of EUR 10,000.00. The FCI must also inform its national federations within one month under a similar EUR 500.00 daily fine and EUR 10,000.00 maximum , and pay for the publication of the judgment in an international magazine. To top it off, the FCI must cover the legal costs, including EUR 473.31 for summons, EUR 1,883.72 for procedural indemnity , and a court registration fee of EUR 165.00. This is undoubtedly a painful and costly setback for our global governing body.

The Crucial Nuance: Why the Olympiad is Saved

While this looks like a harsh bad news report on paper, there is a fantastic and crucial nuance hidden within the judgment that offers us immense opportunities. The judge ruled that the prohibition on the term Olympiad specifically applies to its standalone use. The cease-and-desist order explicitly does not apply when the word is used in combination with “Racing Pigeon” or “Colombophile”!

This means our beloved international events do not have to lose their soul or prestige. We simply need to communicate what we stand for with even more pride and clarity. By claiming the term exclusively as part of the “Racing Pigeon Olympiad”, we preserve our history while giving it a fierce, independent brand identity.

A Roaring and Modern Outlook on the Future

Let us be real: we do not need another organization’s five rings to prove that our pigeons are the absolute elite flying athletes of the world. Our sport has evolved into a hyper-modern, high-tech global discipline involving millions, utilizing advanced GPS systems, and operating at the absolute razor’s edge of performance. This legal clash with a powerhouse like the IOC actually highlights the immense global status pigeon racing has achieved. We are being treated legally as a serious, international multi-million dollar industry.

We quickly shake off the disappointment of this ruling and take control of the narrative with pure passion. Our fantastic pigeons will not fly a single meter slower because of a logo, their fabulous navigation remains a wonder of nature, and our drive for absolute victory is unbreakable. The FCI and national federations will use this momentum to accelerate the creation of an independent, modern, and rock-solid brand identity. The tradition is forced to change its coat, but the athletic achievements and our passion remain forever golden!
