The Royal Belgium Federation, better known as KBDB, is has launched a full investigation after becoming aware of an online publication offering data related to participants and pigeon races.Â
The federation is treating the situation as a possible data leak and says the protection of personal data is being taken extremely seriously.
According to the official communication, the issue came to light after information concerning participants and race activity was reportedly being circulated through online channels. In response, KBDB immediately activated its internal procedures and involved its IT services, Data Protection Officer and legal advisers to assess the situation in depth.
Full Review Underway
At this stage, KBDB says it is working to determine exactly which data may have been distributed and whether the information comes solely from public sources or also includes more sensitive details. One of the key points in the investigation is whether potentially delicate information, such as loft coordinates, may be involved.
For the Belgian pigeon sport, this is a matter that naturally raises concerns among fanciers and organisers alike. Information linked to race participation is a routine part of the sport’s administration, but any suggestion that personal or location related data may have been exposed demands careful scrutiny.

No Link Confirmed With Earlier Server Disruption
KBDB also addressed questions surrounding a recent short server outage. The federation stated that the interruption was caused by a hardware issue at its provider, Velia, and that there is currently no indication that this problem is connected to the newly reported publication.
Even so, KBDB is clearly choosing a cautious approach. Rather than dismissing the matter, the federation has opted to investigate thoroughly and proceed in line with its legal obligations.
Privacy Authority To Be Informed
In its statement, KBDB underlined that the Belgian Data Protection Authority will be informed in accordance with the applicable legal duties. Members are also expected to be warned proactively as the situation is examined further.
That precautionary stance is significant. It signals that the federation is not waiting for absolute certainty before taking protective steps, but is instead acting on the basis of responsibility and transparency.

A Sensitive Moment For Trust And Data Protection
For any modern sports federation, the handling of member information is a serious responsibility. In pigeon racing, where administration, race registrations and national result systems are increasingly digital, confidence in data management is essential.
KBDB has said it deeply regrets the incident and is taking all necessary measures to safeguard both security and the privacy of its members. While the full scope of the matter still has to be clarified, the federation’s message is clear: this is being handled as a potentially serious issue, and the investigation is ongoing.
More details may follow once the internal review has established exactly what data was involved and how the information came to be published online.
