The Ultimate Masterpiece: Mat Janssen Bids Farewell with a Monumental Total Auction on GPS Auctions

A Historic Farewell After More Than Fifty Years of Elite Sport

When a master breeder decides to close the doors of his breeding loft for good, the international pigeon world holds its breath. For more than 54 years, Mat Janssen from Gennep, Limburg, has poured his heart and soul into the racing pigeon sport.

What started in 1972 when his brother Piet knocked together a modest first loft grew under the Gebr. Janssen partnership into decades of pure dominance and early prizes. In recent years, Mat successfully shifted direction with his renowned breeding stud, Flying Home Pigeons.

Due to health reasons and personal circumstances, the final curtain now falls. This is no partial selection or commercial draft of latebreds. It is an uncompromising total auction on GPS Auctions in which every single proven breeder and racer comes under the hammer.

The Dreamer from Gennep Who Builds the Dreams of Others

In long distance racing circles, Mat has long been known as the man who makes the dreams of others come true. His greatest thrill was never holding the clock himself, but rather the exact moment another fancier celebrates victory with his bloodlines.

Mat never selected for romantic pedigrees or flashy names. He thought like an elite coach, where only pigeons with exceptional physical depth, iron character, and proven front runner blood earned a place in the breeding pens.

Furthermore, he left nothing to chance. Practically every bird in the loft is backed by full DNA certification and sex determination, giving buyers absolute certainty about their investment.

Now on GPS-Auctions.com

The Hell of Barcelona: A Spartan Test of Endurance at Derby Carmelo Yupi

The power of his strict breeding philosophy was overwhelmingly proven during the punishing edition of Derby Carmelo Yupi from Barcelona. From the Spanish coast, a brutal distance of 896 kilometers awaited the birds under scorching heat and relentless headwinds.

While the international convoy splintered entirely with only 153 of the 952 basketed warriors back home by Monday morning, the Janssen birds unleashed an unprecedented masterclass:

  • 11th National and International: Clocked at 07:47 AM at 606 meters per minute by the ironclad warrior NL25 1138487.
  • 12th Prize: Just twenty seconds later came the wonder bird 502, which had previously taken 7th in a Hot Spot and 43rd on the 701 kilometer Extra Long Distance stage.
  • 31st, 84th, 88th, and 102nd Prize: Securing no less than six top tier arrivals in one of the toughest races of the decade.

The birds taking 84th and 88th proved to be full brother and sister to the 11th prize winner. Three birds within the first 100 on such a marathon stage out of a single pair underlined the phenomenal breeding value of his colony.

Golden Marathon and OLR References

The performances of Flying Home Pigeons did not go unnoticed by the grandmasters of the sport. Marathon legend Piet de Vogel publicly expressed his admiration when it turned out that Mat’s racers traced directly back to his foundation:

“Top performances by FLYING HOME pigeons from pigeon friend Mat Janssen! A wonderful reference and a top pair for Barcelona across two Carmelo Yupi editions. Mister Gijs rules!” , Piet de Vogel

The sire of that 11th prize winner is a direct, DNA certified son of Mister Gijs paired with the famous Barcelona Duivin, 1st National Ace Pigeon Perpignan. The dam is a phenomenal hen from Team de Hoogh, bred out of Golden Rico and super breeder Lotte. Last year’s 12th prize Barcelona at Carmelo Yupi shared the exact same sire.

In addition, foundation hen Canela, herself 7th Final and 7th Ace Pigeon Grand Average at the prestigious Derby Arona Tenerife, proved her generational worth. Her nest brother bred the 2nd prize winner in the 500 kilometer final at Derby Carmelo Yupi for fancier André van Boxtel.

An Invaluable Genetic Goldmine

The total clearance on GPS Auctions is divided into four exclusive parts and presents a collection of genetics virtually impossible to assemble anywhere else:

  • PWA van der Meulen Foundation: Direct children and inbreds of icons such as Super Kweker 823, Crack 61, De Bergerac, Barcelona Girl, and the 32nd National Barcelona.
  • Verweij de Haan and Long Distance Giants: Direct descendants from the dynasties of Milos, Red Rose, Grace, and Joe Frazier.
  • Team de Hoogh and OLR Power: The explosive One Loft Race strains with children of foundation cock D’n Adwin, Golden Rico, and De 23 Unique.
  • Robin Bakhuis and Piet de Vogel: Proven winning lines featuring direct kin of national ace pigeons and direct descendants of Mister Gijs.
