The Extra Final of Talent Quatro from Oravița, Romania, was meant to be one last magnificent test over 614 kilometres.
As the climax of the Talent Quatro Final 2026 campaign, it became a brutal lesson in how quickly an excellent liberation can turn into a battle against orientation, distance and mountains.
Yet in the middle of that drama, 13 pigeons fought their way back to Šternberk in the immediate aftermath, and the first ten prize winners deserve enormous respect. Above them all stands the ultimate winner of this Talent Quatro Final 2026 Extra Final: Ziege 6, raced by Arndt & Marcus Trepte from Germany, the pigeon that found its way home after an extraordinary ordeal.
A Perfect Start, Then Alarm
The Talent Quatro team had prepared thoroughly. The pigeons were described as being in very good condition, transport and arrival at the Romanian release point went smoothly, and Romanian starter Radu Moldovan even recorded the liberation and published it on the organisation’s Facebook page.
Then the GPS information started telling a different story.
Instead of taking the expected north western line towards the Czech Republic, the tracked pigeons headed due north. At first there was hope that only part of the convoy had made this mistake. But as the first day passed without a single arrival, the awful reality became clear: the entire group had gone in the wrong direction.
This was not a small deviation. To correct their line, the pigeons would no longer face a 614 kilometre race. They would face a return journey of well over 800 kilometres, with some birds reaching as far as Ukraine and others moving into eastern Slovakia. On the way back they then had to confront the High Tatras and Low Tatras, a formidable mountain barrier for young pigeons already carrying the burden of a huge detour.
That is the hard side of our sport. The sky can look perfect. The pigeons can be in supreme condition. The organisation can prepare properly. But once the baskets open, nature and navigation still have the final word.
Reflecting on the flight path and the outcome, loft owner Standa shared the following statement:
“Dear sports fans. Unfortunately, the initial negative indications regarding the flight path of the pigeons fitted with GPS chips have been fully confirmed. To date, only 17 pigeons have returned. This was not due to a lack of preparation. Something must have happened.
A distance of 600 kilometres is not a fatal distance. Our team at OLR Carmelo Yupi regularly completes races of over 800 km. That is indeed a long way, but the return rates are commensurate with this distance. The arrival of the winning pigeon Ziege 6 from the German pair Trepte Arndt & Marcus was witnessed by father and son Randjak.
They assessed his physical condition as excellent.
Some fanciers believe that the loss of orientation among such a large number of pigeons may have been caused by the armed conflict in Ukraine. Specifically, the exceptionally high level of electronic border defences in Romania, Ukraine and Poland against potential attacks by Russian drones. We are not in a position to assess this, but one thing is certain. Next time, we will not be organising the extra final from Oravita. We will stay in Croatia. Although the Račinovci 560 km route does not exceed the ‘magic’ distance of 600 km, it is a tried and tested route.
Congratulations to all pigeon fanciers whose birds managed to return home from the extra final. In addition to the TOP 10 awards, we will also be giving special prizes to other pigeons that made it back. Their owners will receive 1 free pigeon for the 2027 season.”

Ziege 6 Writes History in the Talent Quatro Final 2026
At a recorded speed of 385.180 metres per minute, Ziege 6 was the first pigeon to solve an almost impossible return route and claim a victory that must be measured in courage as much as in speed.
The organisers reported that Ziege 6 arrived in reasonably good condition, an observation also made by Mr Randjak and his son, who were present at the loft. That point matters. It suggests a pigeon that had not merely survived the long and chaotic route but still possessed the physical reserves and mental strength to return with purpose.
For Trepte Arndt & Marcus, this is a victory with serious weight. The partnership had already shown class during the Talent Quatro season, including strong performances from its pigeons in the programme leading to the main final. But Ziege 6 now has a result that cannot be reduced to an ordinary prize card.
This is a pigeon that came home when almost every possible obstacle stood in its way.
The First Ten Prize Winners

4 | BAVARIAN FIGHTERS Hausladen | WH11 1642 | Day 2, 13:07:08.46 | 351.431 m/min |
5 | TEAM WEIS | Whisper 801 | Day 2, 13:09:39.65 | 350.925 m/min |
6 | KUBÁČEK Lubomír “A” | Brr Brr Patapim | Day 2, 14:25:41.65 | 336.310 m/min |

10 | MATEO | Ciemny 47 | Day 3, 09:44:46.38 | 205.711 m/min |
The second pigeon, KT 467 of Kolínek Jarolím senior and junior, arrived almost an hour after Ziege 6. The organisation described it as extremely exhausted, with little muscle left and looking like little more than a heap of feathers. Yet it immediately went to the feed and mentally recovered. That is a powerful image of the homing instinct and inner toughness that make racing pigeons extraordinary.
Third place went to SP 515 from TEAM YOUNG FLYERS Senohrábek “C”, another leading result for one of the strongest teams of the entire Talent Quatro Final 2026 campaign. TEAM YOUNG FLYERS Senohrábek had already demonstrated serious depth throughout the season, winning the Super Team title with two teams that both achieved the maximum 18 prizes.
Bavarian Fighters Hausladen took fourth with WH11 1642, while TEAM WEIS took fifth with Whisper 801. The sixth prize went to Lubomír Kubáček “A” with Brr Brr Patapim. TEAM YOUNG FLYERS Senohrábek “C” returned again in seventh through SP 537, underlining that quality in depth can still shine in the most difficult circumstances.
Chaos of SOKOLA Dominik fought into eighth place late on the second day. On the third day, Belgot of Šupíkovský Josef took ninth, and MATEO completed the top ten with Ciemny 47.
A Race Nobody Wanted
Let us be clear. This is not the outcome anyone wanted.
A race with no pigeons home on the first day and only a handful of arrivals recorded in the immediate aftermath is dramatic and deeply concerning. The physical price paid by the returning pigeons is clear from the organisation’s own observations. The priority must remain the welfare and recovery of every pigeon that manages to return.
But it would also be wrong to dismiss the achievement of the pigeons that did make it home. Their performances demonstrate why pigeon racing continues to command respect across generations and borders. These were not simply birds completing a planned 614 kilometre route. They were athletes forced to correct a catastrophic navigational error, absorb a massive increase in distance and find their way back through one of Central Europe’s most demanding geographical regions.
Their return is a triumph of resilience.
Why Talent Quatro Remains Pigeon Boss Approved
Talent Quatro is Pigeon Boss Approved precisely because serious pigeon racing is not only about glossy photos, prize money and easy victories. It is about proper organisation, transparent information, international participation, meaningful preparation and facing the truth when a race does not develop as planned.
The organisation acted seriously before this Extra Final. The pigeons had veterinary health certificates, the transport boxes were disinfected, the race protocol was prepared, and the team worked with local Romanian assistance to identify a suitable release site. The Extra Final was designed as a genuine opportunity for pigeons outside the selected top group to compete over a longer distance and add value before auction.
Talent Quatro has also built its name over thirteen editions by asking pigeons progressively harder questions. In 2026, the programme included races through Slovakia, Austria and Hungary, followed by the main 510 kilometre final from Vrpolje in Croatia. The season brought together 1,925 young pigeons, 260 teams and participants from 17 countries.
That is no small stage. It is an international proving ground where the same loft management, the same training system and the same race programme allow pigeons from different breeders and countries to be judged fairly.
The Oravița Extra Final did not deliver the sporting spectacle hoped for. But the organisation has not hidden from the reality of what happened. The GPS data exposed the wrong line. The arrival list shows the difficult returns. And the winners are recognised for what they have truly achieved.
Important Announcement from The Pigeon Boss: End of Season and Auction Updates
As we reach the conclusion of the Talent Quatro Final 2026 racing campaign, here are the essential updates regarding the end of the season, prize payouts, and auction preparations:
End of Season & Prize Payment Deadline:
The 2026 racing season officially ends on Sunday, 4 October 2026 at 24:00. This date is critical for organizing the upcoming auctions, as no further pigeons will be added to the race lists after this deadline. This date also marks the official deadline for prize payments.
The Talent Quatro team will contact all winners individually to collect bank account details, starting with the largest prize winners and working down. Fanciers are kindly requested not to send bank details unprompted.
Despite the extreme heatwaves with temperatures reaching around 40°C throughout the summer, the organization successfully conducted all six main races with strong results, culminating in a magnificent final race from Vrpolje, Croatia.
Auction Information:
On 4 October 2026, a professional photographer from Poland arrives to photograph the TOP 50 pigeons of the 2026 season along with all returned birds from the Extra Final (18 pigeons back home as of today). The auction is projected to take place at the end of October at the earliest.
But every pigeon in the first ten has written its own chapter of courage:
KT 467, who returned exhausted but did not give up.
SP 515 and SP 537, carrying the banner for TEAM YOUNG FLYERS Senohrábek.
WH11 1642, Whisper 801, Brr Brr Patapim and Chaos, who all made it home on the hard second day.
Belgot and Ciemny 47, who endured into the third day to secure their prize positions.
This is pigeon racing at its most unforgiving, but also at its most revealing. No shortcuts. No excuses. Just pigeons, distance, instinct and the one overwhelming desire to get home.
Respect to Ziege 6. Respect to the top ten. And above all, respect to every pigeon still fighting to find its way back to Šternberk.
