With the sun high in the sky and the pigeons in absolute peak condition, 2026 is already shaping up to be a legendary year for the grandmaster from Born: Huub Hermans. Following his phenomenal dream season in 2025, where he was crowned the absolute 1st General Loft Champion of Afdeling Limburg, Huub is effortlessly carrying that blistering form straight into 2026. The competition knew they had to brace themselves, but what the Hermans colony has been pulling off at the provincial level over the past few weeks is pure world-class racing.
Let’s dive into the jaw-dropping facts of the current season, his rock-solid philosophy, and the rich history behind this Limburg powerhouse loft!
Sensational Intermediate Standings: The Undisputed King of 2026!
What is currently unfolding in the skies above Born is nothing short of breathtaking. The provisional standings for this season are not just impressive, they are genuinely sensational:
1st General Champion Afdeling Limburg – The ultimate confirmation that his colony is simply unbeatable across the board.
1st Loft Champion Middle Distance Afdeling Limburg – Nobody gets their entire racing team home as quickly and consistently as Huub.
2nd Ace Pigeon Middle Distance Afdeling Limburg – A standout individual superstar that storms the absolute top of the charts week after week.
3rd Nominated Champion Middle Distance National Championships Netherlands – This is the Champions League of pigeon racing, and Huub is forcing the absolute elite of the Netherlands to their knees!
What gives this success an extra layer of brilliance is the unbelievable consistency. So far this season, he has maintained a prize percentage of nearly 70%. This means nearly seven out of every ten basketed pigeons clock in early enough to win a prize. That is pure, unadulterated dominance!

A Flying Start to 2026: Early Birds and Text-Book Series
The 2026 season is in full swing, and the famous teletext pigeons and long-distance athletes from Born have loudly sent their calling card across Afdeling Limburg. The provincial results are a true joy to look at:
Reims (235 km) – 8,572 pigeons
Huub opened the account with a razor-sharp 3rd and 40th Provincial. Securing 20 prizes from 36 basketed birds, the entire racing team proved right away that their rhythm was spot on.
Sourdun (328 km) – Two races, double the party
Against 6,896 pigeons, he claimed the 30th, 38th, and 50th prize, recording a mind-blowing prize percentage: 27 prizes out of 36 birds.
On the larger release against a massive field of 14,304 pigeons, the Hermans train kept steaming ahead, taking 45 prizes from 65 birds, led by the 63rd and 105th Provincial.
Sens (363 km) – 11,443 pigeons
This race saw a full-blown assault on the absolute lead: a magnificent 2nd Provincial! On top of that, 24 out of his 59 entered pigeons safely won their prizes.
Issoudun (532 km) – 4,893 pigeons
When the distances increase and the flights get demanding, Huub is truly in his element. Flying away with a 5th Provincial, he once again left the competition in the dust. The regularity is astounding: 16 prizes out of 24 basketed birds, yielding a 66% prize rate on the tough one-day long-distance level!
Shaped by History and Legendary Top Performers
This level of success does not just drop out of thin air. Huub’s story began decades ago as a young boy sitting on a simple wooden bench behind his parental home. Fascinated by a few fancy pigeons, he received a golden piece of advice from his neighbor Pierre de Bruijn: “Fancy pigeons are fun, but real racing pigeons, that is a whole different ball game.” Huub built his very first loft out of scrap wood, and from that moment on, there was no turning back.
The ultimate turning point arrived in the early 1980s through a close friendship with the legendary Thei Bours from Elsloo. Through this connection, the pure, iconic Van Loon pigeons (via Poppel) found their way to Born. Today, around 85% of the entire Hermans colony still proudly carries this rock-solid Van Loon bloodline. It is a strain built purely on speed, power, intelligence, and an unyielding will to win.
Over the years, this brilliant foundation has been sharpened by introducing top-tier blood from world-renowned icons such as Dirk van Dyck (the famous Kannibaal line) and Pieter Veenstra. This meticulous strategy has brought forth absolute icons in his own loft:
Mister Teletext 369 (NL21-1389369): A phenomenal all-rounder boasting 4th NPO Lorris against 2,482 pigeons and 7th NPO Melun against 11,596 pigeons. He is the absolute pride of Born.
Mister Chalons 313 (NL24-8580313): The sensational racer that was crowned 1st Ace Pigeon Middle Distance in Afdeling Limburg and 6th National Ace Middle Distance of the Netherlands in 2025.
Mister Meindert (NL23-9489146): A relentless points machine bred directly from the Olympic super pair of Meindert de Jong.
The System: Structure, Rhythm, and Honest Selection
Anyone who thinks Huub takes a casual approach to management is sorely mistaken; in Born, an elite sports mentality rules the roost. Everything is built around a tight structure and fixed rhythm.
Loft Management and Training
The lofts are spacious and logically laid out. The racing crew of about 32 widowhood cocks trains hard in the morning, while the hens and the young birds get their airtime later in the day. Whenever the weather permits, Huub does not hesitate to take the birds on midweek tosses up to 35 kilometers to keep them razor-sharp. The climate inside the lofts is carefully managed with controlled ventilation and mist sprays when needed.
Feeding and Healthcare
The pigeons are fed high-quality Patagoon mixtures, enhanced with Willem de Bruijn’s famous Ochtendmix, P40 pellets, and peanuts for that extra boost of energy during heavy racing weekends. On the medical front, nothing is left to chance: strict vaccinations, routine check-ups by Dr. Boskamp, and a well-planned natural routine during the moult keep the entire squad in peak health.
The Strict Yardstick
The biggest secret behind Huub’s enduring success is his selection process. It is straightforward, honest, and completely uncompromising: at the end of the season, roughly two-thirds of the loft must leave. Only the pigeons that repeatedly fly at the very front of the pack and prove they can compete with the absolute best earn the right to stay another year.
A Global Brand Rooted in Born
The beautiful thing about pigeon racing is how it blurs borders and connects fanciers worldwide, and Huub Hermans is the living embodiment of that. His pigeons do not just dominate in Limburg; they win all over the planet. From the 4 Olympiad pigeons carrying Hermans blood in Maastricht (2024) to national ace pigeons and winners in Poland, Hungary, Slovakia, and Austria. Even in the most competitive One Loft Races like Victoria Falls or the grueling final in Indonesia (Lang Lang Buana, 1,145 km!), descendants of the legendary Teletext lines are flying right at the top.
The 2026 season is bound to bring many more incredible highlights. The birds are hungry, the system is flawless, and the passion in Born is stronger than ever. Keep a close eye on the upcoming charts, because Huub Hermans and his athletes of the blue sky are nowhere near done amazing us!
