What a wonderful weekend it was at the Pigeon Boss lofts! The training race from Arras was on the schedule. Although we didn’t make it onto the official results sheet this time, I am stepping into the week with a massive smile and a healthy dose of bravado. Because when you look at the facts and the behavior of the pigeons, you know one thing for sure: our noses are pointed straight in the right direction for our ultimate goal, The Road to Barcelona.
Suspense and adapting on the nest

It worked out beautifully; everything went super well! You see, I selectively breed only from pigeons that have actually won a prize from Barcelona. Of those specific top performers, only one was sent to Arras this time. His hen was just sitting nicely and comfortably at home and luckily turned out to be extremely nest-bound.
Fair chances and rock-solid patience on the road to Barcelona

So why am I so incredibly happy without an early prize? Simple: the birds came home to Delft like absolute rockets. Within barely 14 minutes, all 9 pigeons were back safely at the base!

Of course, I will never beat the pure speed specialists in the club at a short distance of 235 kilometers. But they don’t need to. When I look specifically at my direct competition for the heavy marathon and Barcelona, I can only say that I am super satisfied. Many of them were far behind me. I saw renowned lofts this weekend that still had to start clocking when the trap here was already closed and peace had returned!
The Arrival List from Arras (235 km)
The clock never lies. Look at how beautiful this list from Sunday, June 7th looks; they dropped onto the trap almost in one big train:
NL 2024 8362458 – Arrival: 10:57:46
NL 2024 8362499 – Arrival: 11:00:28
NL 2025 1232474 – Arrival: 11:00:41
NL 2024 8362452 – Arrival: 11:00:52 (The Only Hen)
NL 2024 8362493 – Arrival: 11:03:47
NL 2024 8362455 – Arrival: 11:08:52
NL 2024 8362453 – Arrival: 11:09:05
NL 2025 1255539 – Arrival: 11:11:36
NL 2020 1436402 – Arrival: 11:12:56
On paper, such a shorter training race might not say much about the grueling kilometers coming up in July. But it teaches me one important thing: the pigeons are in perfect health, the motivation is high, and we are right on track.
Remember this one: NL.24-8362458 “Astro”
What truly gave me goosebumps of pride this Sunday was the performance of the NL.24-8362458, better known as “Astro”. This young prospect is my absolute favorite for the future of the Pigeon Boss, and he just went ahead and did it again: for the second time this year, he arrived first at the lofts! Believe me, when you have a loft with pigeons of this caliber and this natural drive for home, you will get there.
The ultimate goal with Astro? To quietly and steadily work towards the start of Barcelona 2027. It is still a long way to go for him and for me. But then again: patience, dedication, and a rock-solid trust in my pigeons and myself is what drives me.
On to the next step on The Road to Barcelona, with pleasure, passion, and plenty of bravado!
