What fantastic news we’ve received over the past few days! The absolute elite of world pigeon racing is pouring in for the new edition of the Victoria Falls World Challenge Pigeon Race. Pigeons from no fewer than 15 different countries have arrived safely: Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Germany, Belgium, Ireland, Slovakia, Slovenia, Hungary, the United Kingdom, the United States, Netherlands, Romania, Poland, and Turkey!

If this isn’t going to be a true spectacle on the international One Loft Race calendar, then I don’t know what is!

The Intake Period: The Beginning of a Dream

The intake period marks the official kickoff of the entire campaign. While the Northern Hemisphere moves through autumn and winter, pigeons arrive in sunny Zimbabwe from all across the globe. Young birds, ideally between 45 and 60 days old, make the crossing using recognized, professional transport networks.

This crucial phase is all about biosecurity, tight scheduling, and pure craftsmanship. And take it from me: the way the Victoria Falls team handles this is absolute Champions League caliber!

What Happens After Arrival? The Next Steps

When the pigeons arrive in quarantine, they don’t just get placed straight into the main loft. A highly professional protocol is followed, managed by the expert Victoria Falls management and veterinary team:

Strict Medical & Biosecurity Checks:

Upon arrival, the birds undergo a thorough health inspection. Mandatory vaccinations against Paramyxovirus, Rotavirus, and Pigeon Pox are checked and completed to ensure the entire loft population remains 100% protected.

Rest, Recovery & Hydration:

After their journey, these athletes receive all the time they need to catch their breath. With specialized electrolytes, premium nutrition, and continuous care, their hydration and energy levels are rapidly replenished.

Quarantining & Observation:

During a strict 30-day quarantine period, the pigeons are monitored in specialized isolated compartments. Their droppings, breathing, and physical condition are observed daily to guarantee that only perfectly healthy birds move forward.

Ring & RFID Chip Registration:

In addition to their permanent country ring, every pigeon is equipped with an advanced BENZING RFID microchip ring. This ensures all arrivals, training flights, and clocking times are streamed live to a global audience.

Acclimatization & Orientation Training:

Once quarantine is lifted and the official Loft List is published, the birds are allowed to explore the open sky. They get accustomed to the environment around the new loft facilities, learn how to use the entry traps, and begin their initial short loft-flying exercise sessions.
