True greatness in pigeon racing rarely makes a lot of noise. It lives in the quiet dedication of the early morning hours, the patient selection in the breeding loft, and an unspoken bond between fancier and bird. In the Flemish Brabant village of Machelen, the Van Win family embodies this pure, authentic spirit. They are modest people who prefer to let their results do the talking.
Those results speak volumes. While the Van Win pigeons have built a reputation for dominating the weekly club and provincial sheets in Belgium, their athletes are proving something even bigger: the exact same bloodlines excel on the world stage in One Loft Races.
A standout example came on August 14, 2026, when BE 26 2009697, a white racer bred by Hok L & N, claimed 5th prize in the grueling Final of the One Loft Race Pirate. Raced under the partnership of Mehmet Koce and Mathias Cuvillier, this bird proved that the Van Win DNA thrives when the going gets tough.
A True Family Sport Built Around the Breakfast Table
What makes the story of the Van Win family so heartwarming is how naturally it spans generations. Founding father Ludwig Van Win laid the groundwork decades ago, passing down his knowledge and passion to his sons. Today, the family operates as a tight, synergistic collective where everyone plays to their strengths:
Milan Van Win has developed into an outstanding young talent. Already crowned 1st Provincial Ace Pigeon Middle Distance Youth in Flemish Brabant, Milan manages his own racing team with remarkable consistency from sprint all the way to long distance.
Gregory Van Win acts as the marksman of the family. With a small, highly selective basket, Gregory regularly shocks the local and regional competition on races like Noyon, Toury, and Orleans.
Dylan Van Win is the breeding mind with a keen eye for physical balance, vitality, and unique colors.
Hok L & N, managed jointly by Bryan, Dylan, and Ludwig, stands for pure efficiency. They refuse the numbers game, sending small entries that regularly return near perfect prize percentages.
Around the Sunday breakfast table, there is plenty of friendly rivalry, banter, and mutual support. It is pigeon at its finest: an authentic family passion that brings people together.

The Genetic Blueprint: Keeping the Colony Winning and Modern
How do the Van Win pigeons stay at the very top year after year? The secret lies in a balanced kweekvisie that combines sprint explosiveness with ironclad endurance.
Ludwig Van Win established the base by acquiring elite lines from icons of the sport:
The natural speed and winning mentality of Gaby Vandenabeele from Dentergem.
The grit, stamina, and weather resistance of Erik Limbourg.
The famous Radja bloodline via Roger Mertens from Sint Truiden.
The heavy distance blood of national marathon masters Jeroen and Stijn Rans.
Rather than changing direction with every passing trend, the family anchors their winning base around proven performers. Foundation hens like Rani (1st Provincial Ace Pigeon KHF Youth 2024) and Resi (3rd Ace Pigeon KHF Woluwe Center 2024), along with full sisters such as Raven, Rina, and Raya II, ensure that generation after generation inherits the exact same drive to get home first.
The value of these genetics is proven repeatedly on other lofts as well:
Erik Masset found a goldmine in Van Win stock, breeding his super hen Wonda (14 times top 10) and Young Fighter (1st National Zone B4 Argenton against 913 birds and 57th National against 13,393 birds).
Jos De Mol in Huizingen consistently clocks early prizes with direct Van Win descendants week after week.
Thriving on the Global One Loft Race Circuit
One Loft Races represent the most neutral test in modern pigeon sport. Every bird lives in the same loft, eats the same feed, and faces the same weather without the influence of home loft position or wind advantage.
The Van Win pigeons have a proven track record under these conditions. Their super hen Raya previously claimed 1st prize in the final of the MWG Mazury One Loft Race in Poland, defeating 1,934 birds from eighteen nations.
The latest proof came during the Final of the One Loft Race Pirate 2026:
Release point and distance: Ablis, 355 kilometers
Release time: 07:00:00 CEST
Arrival time of Den 697: 19:59:26 CEST
Time on the wing: 12 hours, 59 minutes, and 26 seconds
Flight speed: 455.4572 meters per minute
Result: 5th International against elite competition
With the race winner recording just 601 meters per minute, this was not a race decided by tailwinds or luck. It was an exhausting, near thirteen hour battle against heavy air and heat where only birds with genuine character could keep flying until dusk. Den 697 never gave up, trapping just before dark to secure a spot in the international top five.
Pedigree Breakdown: The Heritage of Den 697
The pedigree of BE 26 2009697 “Dani” illustrates why this white racer had the strength to endure such a difficult final:
Sire: BE 23 4090198 (Den 198, Gert Van Limbergen) A son of Den 846, who was bred directly from basic breeder De Scherpen (Freddy Segers) paired with Bliksemgirl. Den 846 is a half brother to Frulleke (4th Provincial Ace KBDB SMD 2020) and top breeders Rambo and Piraat. The dam of Den 198 is Den 599, a racing hen with more than 12,000 prize kilometers on the middle distance and descendant of the famous 573 line (8 times 1st Dourdan).
Dam: BE 24 2056108 (Den 108, De Keyser x Hellinckx) Carries the speed of Gaby Vandenabeele through Den 916 (from the same parents as the dam of 1st Provincial La Souterraine 5,390 pigeons and 5th National La Souterraine 16,613 pigeons for Vlaeminck), combined with Wit Killertje (Mario De Keyser). The maternal granddam is Pascal 223 (Pascal Hellinckx), an inbred granddaughter of Olivia, the Best Perpignan and Barcelona pigeon of Belgium in 2018 and 2019 (1st Provincial, 5th National 3,966 pigeons, and 17th International Perpignan 12,339 pigeons).
This combination of middle distance speed and Barcelona extreme long distance stamina created the exact engine needed for a 13 hour marathon.
A Bright Future for a Modest Colony
The Van Win family remains grounded, focusing on good care, rigorous selection, and the simple joy of waiting for their birds on race day. Yet with every top result in the regional clubs and every headline on the international One Loft circuit, the reputation of van Win Pigeons continues to grow worldwide.
It is proof that patience, family unity, and first class pigeons will always rise to the top.
